Fifth grade is a year of tremendous growth, especially in mathematics. Students are expected to have their math facts (multiplication & division) mastered when they come into fifth grade. This is essential for mastering the many concepts and skills they will learn this year in the following domains: Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Number and Operations in Base Ten, Number and Operations-Fractions, Measurement & Data, and Geometry.
Students are to apply the following Mathematical Practices in their everyday learning: 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4. Model with mathematics. 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to precision. 7. Look for and make use of structure. 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Room 1 is currently using Eureka Math- a rigorous curriculum (Engage NY- Modules 1-7) Additional Math programs include: Zearn.org and ST Math Math Support: Eureka Math Resources- eurekamathhelp.piqua.org Homework Helper- greatminds.org
